About the event
Topic: There is a robust and growing body of evidence demonstrating physical exercise is a powerful tool to improve the lives of people coping with a wide range of developmental and psychiatric disorders. This course will provide a basic overview of the effects of exercise on the brain and mental health; explore basic changes in the structure and function of the brain resulting from aerobic exercise; develop a basic understanding of the evidence supporting aerobic exercise in the treatment and prevention of anxiety, mood and thought disorders, dementia and mild cognitive impairment; and an overview of developing and implementing exercise programs to improve physical and mental health of people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and those supporting them. This training’s core aim is to create a bridge from theory to best practice for health and human service providers.
